Narrative:
Landed on runway 31C at mdw and taxied clear of runway. Told to taxi to and hold short of runway 22R and switch to ground. Cleared by ground controller to cross runway 22R on taxiway north to hold short of runway 22L on taxiway Q. Read back crossing and hold short clearance. As per SOP's; turned on all available external lights; visually and aurally cleared left (approach end of runway) and right; and stated 'clear right; clear left; cleared across runway 22R.' I released parking brake and began to taxi across runway 22R hold short line. Ground controller spoke our call sign with no further instruction; then heard at least 2 other controllers in the backgnd (eg; in the same room) call 'stop; stop; just tell him to stop.' the ground controller then said 'hold position.' I stopped the aircraft after having crossed the hold short line. I looked left and saw a bizjet emerge from behind a building which is to the right of the approach end of runway 22R. He appeared to be conducting a circle-to-land visual approach. The aircraft touched down on runway 22R. Ground controller then cleared us across runway 22R on taxiway north to hold short of runway 22L on taxiway Q. Proceeded relative to ground controller clearance without further incident.

CLRED BY GND CTLR TO CROSS RWY 22R ON TXWY N TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 22L ON TXWY Q. READ BACK XING AND HOLD SHORT CLRNC. AS PER SOP'S; TURNED ON ALL AVAILABLE EXTERNAL LIGHTS; VISUALLY AND AURALLY CLRED L (APCH END OF RWY) AND R; AND STATED 'CLR R; CLR L; CLRED ACROSS RWY 22R.'
