Narrative:

Pushed from gate facing north. Ground cleared us to taxi north on taxiway a and double back on taxiway B. Started to taxi north and we were well onto the taxiway. An MD80 came from behind us at a high rate of speed. The first officer saw him at the last moment and I jammed on the brakes to avoid collision. 2 flight attendants fell and injured themselves. The MD80 had deviated well to the left of taxiway centerline to avoid us but continued to proceed at a high taxi speed. He approached us from behind us in our blind spot. I'm convinced that if we had not done an emergency stop; a collision would have occurred. He had no intention of giving way.
