Narrative:
The B777 has 2 types of wheel/tire assemblies; one for the a model and one for the B model. Although there are flight crew procedures when an 'a' wheel is on a 'B' plane; the only flight crew action when a 'B' wheel is on an 'a' plane is to check that there is a confign factor in the release document. It was noted on walkaround that the left truck; center; outboard wheel was a 'B' wheel; but it was an 'a' plane. Maintenance was notified; but misread the procedure and did not reissue the release document. The other pilots were unaware that a confign factor was required in the release document since there is no other flight crew actions required. This is the third plane in as many months that I have found with a 'B' wheel on an 'a' plane without the necessary confign factor in the release document. Although this was not a safety of flight issue; it was technically an illegal dispatch since we did not have a correct release document.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B777 FO RPTS TWO TYPES OF TIRE AND WHEEL ASSEMBLIES FOR 'A' AND ONE FOR 'B' MODELS. NOTATION 'CF' ON MAINT RELEASE WHEN 'B' INSTALLED ON 'A' MODEL. RPTR FINDING 'B' WHEELS ON 'A' MODEL WITH NO 'CF' ON MAINT RELEASE.
Narrative: THE B777 HAS 2 TYPES OF WHEEL/TIRE ASSEMBLIES; ONE FOR THE A MODEL AND ONE FOR THE B MODEL. ALTHOUGH THERE ARE FLT CREW PROCS WHEN AN 'A' WHEEL IS ON A 'B' PLANE; THE ONLY FLT CREW ACTION WHEN A 'B' WHEEL IS ON AN 'A' PLANE IS TO CHK THAT THERE IS A CONFIGN FACTOR IN THE RELEASE DOCUMENT. IT WAS NOTED ON WALKAROUND THAT THE L TRUCK; CTR; OUTBOARD WHEEL WAS A 'B' WHEEL; BUT IT WAS AN 'A' PLANE. MAINT WAS NOTIFIED; BUT MISREAD THE PROC AND DID NOT REISSUE THE RELEASE DOCUMENT. THE OTHER PLTS WERE UNAWARE THAT A CONFIGN FACTOR WAS REQUIRED IN THE RELEASE DOCUMENT SINCE THERE IS NO OTHER FLT CREW ACTIONS REQUIRED. THIS IS THE THIRD PLANE IN AS MANY MONTHS THAT I HAVE FOUND WITH A 'B' WHEEL ON AN 'A' PLANE WITHOUT THE NECESSARY CONFIGN FACTOR IN THE RELEASE DOCUMENT. ALTHOUGH THIS WAS NOT A SAFETY OF FLT ISSUE; IT WAS TECHNICALLY AN ILLEGAL DISPATCH SINCE WE DID NOT HAVE A CORRECT RELEASE DOCUMENT.
