Narrative:
I received a PIREP that the compass card on the #1 RMI on air carrier X was acting erratically. During the drive from the hangar to the gate area; I was stopped by the airport police for a badge check. I was stopped for approximately 10 mins. At that point I felt like I had been delayed unnecessarily. I determined that I could not fix it at the gate during a gate turn. I determined that I could defer the #1 RMI in accordance with MEL for the saab 340. The MEL that I could use is 34-51-1(C). During the course of completing the paperwork in the maintenance computer I inadvertently wrote the numbers 34-54-01(C). After a series of flts; it was discovered that the wrong number was written in the logbooks by the flight crew. Avionics was dispatched to correct the logbooks.
