Narrative:
On vector departure from atl from runway 8L; tower assigns initial heading of 080 degrees. Filed 'SID' is jckts 3. Established on 080 degree heading; atl departure clears our flight direct to hrshl. After entering direct hrshl in FMS; hrshl drops out as active waypoint. Reselected jckts 3 SID on FMS; but could not get hrshl to come back up on legs page. Advised ATC and ATC put our flight on vectors. ATC eventually cleared us direct to zelan on the departure and FMS/LNAV worked properly. Flight continued without incident. Also worth noting is that during departure the programmed cruise altitude dropped out of the FMS further supporting a momentary problem with FMS as cause of discrepancy on departure.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B757-200 FLT CREW FLYING THE JCKTS DEP OUT OF ATL HAD A WAYPOINT DROP OUT OF THE FMS. THEY LATER HAD THE ALT DROP OUT OF THE FMS ALSO.
Narrative: ON VECTOR DEP FROM ATL FROM RWY 8L; TWR ASSIGNS INITIAL HDG OF 080 DEGS. FILED 'SID' IS JCKTS 3. ESTABLISHED ON 080 DEG HDG; ATL DEP CLRS OUR FLT DIRECT TO HRSHL. AFTER ENTERING DIRECT HRSHL IN FMS; HRSHL DROPS OUT AS ACTIVE WAYPOINT. RESELECTED JCKTS 3 SID ON FMS; BUT COULD NOT GET HRSHL TO COME BACK UP ON LEGS PAGE. ADVISED ATC AND ATC PUT OUR FLT ON VECTORS. ATC EVENTUALLY CLRED US DIRECT TO ZELAN ON THE DEP AND FMS/LNAV WORKED PROPERLY. FLT CONTINUED WITHOUT INCIDENT. ALSO WORTH NOTING IS THAT DURING DEP THE PROGRAMMED CRUISE ALT DROPPED OUT OF THE FMS FURTHER SUPPORTING A MOMENTARY PROB WITH FMS AS CAUSE OF DISCREPANCY ON DEP.
