Narrative:
I was assigned to tow aircraft X to spot X. I knew that aircraft Y was to be taxied from the hangar. When I arrived with aircraft X at the hangar I noticed that aircraft Y wasn't sitting outside. I pulled aircraft X on to spot X; gave the signal for applying brakes to the brake rider and received a response that brakes were set. I stepped out to talk to the brake rider. Stated that I was going into the hangar to see if aircraft Y was in the new hangar. When I went inside; I was talking to some hangar line mechanics; to find out what they wanted to do with aircraft X since we needed to get aircraft Y out of the hangar. I was told to move the aircraft from spot X to either spot Y or Z. I had a wing walker posted on the aircraft left wing and started a hard turn backing into spot Y. As I started to straighten the aircraft out the wing walker moved to the aircraft's right wing. There was a maintenance stand behind the right wing about the middle of wing. The wing walker stopped me and he checked the clearance between the stand and wing. He gave me a visual signal indication of how much clearance there was by holding his arms out in front of him about waist high with palms facing each other. At this point I was about 4 ft from the stop line marked 'all.' the wing walker then waved his hands in a manner that indicated that it was ok to continue backing. As I backed up; the wing walker moved to the tail of the aircraft. When he did I lost sight of him and stopped moving. He then moved to where I could see him and again gave me a hand signal as to how much clearance I had. He then signaled to continue backing. At that point he moved back to the wing; where I learned I had hit the stand.

Title: AN MD80 INCURRED STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO THE TRAILING EDGE OF THE R WING WHEN THE ACFT WAS PUSHED ON TO A PARKING SPOT. ACFT STRUCK A MAINT STAND.
Narrative: I WAS ASSIGNED TO TOW ACFT X TO SPOT X. I KNEW THAT ACFT Y WAS TO BE TAXIED FROM THE HANGAR. WHEN I ARRIVED WITH ACFT X AT THE HANGAR I NOTICED THAT ACFT Y WASN'T SITTING OUTSIDE. I PULLED ACFT X ON TO SPOT X; GAVE THE SIGNAL FOR APPLYING BRAKES TO THE BRAKE RIDER AND RECEIVED A RESPONSE THAT BRAKES WERE SET. I STEPPED OUT TO TALK TO THE BRAKE RIDER. STATED THAT I WAS GOING INTO THE HANGAR TO SEE IF ACFT Y WAS IN THE NEW HANGAR. WHEN I WENT INSIDE; I WAS TALKING TO SOME HANGAR LINE MECHS; TO FIND OUT WHAT THEY WANTED TO DO WITH ACFT X SINCE WE NEEDED TO GET ACFT Y OUT OF THE HANGAR. I WAS TOLD TO MOVE THE ACFT FROM SPOT X TO EITHER SPOT Y OR Z. I HAD A WING WALKER POSTED ON THE ACFT L WING AND STARTED A HARD TURN BACKING INTO SPOT Y. AS I STARTED TO STRAIGHTEN THE ACFT OUT THE WING WALKER MOVED TO THE ACFT'S R WING. THERE WAS A MAINT STAND BEHIND THE R WING ABOUT THE MIDDLE OF WING. THE WING WALKER STOPPED ME AND HE CHKED THE CLRNC BTWN THE STAND AND WING. HE GAVE ME A VISUAL SIGNAL INDICATION OF HOW MUCH CLRNC THERE WAS BY HOLDING HIS ARMS OUT IN FRONT OF HIM ABOUT WAIST HIGH WITH PALMS FACING EACH OTHER. AT THIS POINT I WAS ABOUT 4 FT FROM THE STOP LINE MARKED 'ALL.' THE WING WALKER THEN WAVED HIS HANDS IN A MANNER THAT INDICATED THAT IT WAS OK TO CONTINUE BACKING. AS I BACKED UP; THE WING WALKER MOVED TO THE TAIL OF THE ACFT. WHEN HE DID I LOST SIGHT OF HIM AND STOPPED MOVING. HE THEN MOVED TO WHERE I COULD SEE HIM AND AGAIN GAVE ME A HAND SIGNAL AS TO HOW MUCH CLRNC I HAD. HE THEN SIGNALED TO CONTINUE BACKING. AT THAT POINT HE MOVED BACK TO THE WING; WHERE I LEARNED I HAD HIT THE STAND.
