Narrative:

I failed to set the flaps to 5 degrees before the 'before taxi checklist.' the captain and I did not notice during the checklist that the flaps were at 2 degrees not 5 degrees. After he set the power and called set takeoff thrust; I verified it set. Captain then noticed flaps were at 2 degrees not 5 degrees. He then asked me to set them to 5 degrees. I responded and we continued without incident. We were light weight on a long; dry runway so I felt that what he did was safer and more comfortable to the passenger than rejecting. Better verification during the checklist! In the lighting conditions at the time; at a glance; the flaps looked to be in the proper position.
