Narrative:
We did not set the flaps prior to taxi. We did run the checklist; but somehow we both missed that the flaps were not set. We had extended ground time due to waiting on the fuel truck; but I don't think this caused us to miss the flaps. We also had to rerun the takeoff data due to heat/heavy load since flaps 5 would not work. This was probably a contributing factor; but still we should have set the flaps before taxi. We recognized the flaps were not set while taxiing to the runway (before running the before takeoff checklist). We then set the flaps and reran the taxi checklist when current conditions require something different than the norm; extra vigilance is required. We should not have missed setting the flaps; and using the current procedures; we should have caught this before taxi while running the checklist.
