Narrative:
We were en route to sdl to finish the CJ1's owner's crew type rating. We have recently gone to an electronic flight bag. ATC instructed to cross swirl at 11000 ft MSL. We copy clearance and start an early descent to make the restr. Our plan is to shoot an approach to familiarize the owner with the area he will take his check flight in. He is flying and gets interested in what I am doing with the efb. I start showing him making note that he is making the restr. As we descend the headwind decreases. Our selected vertical speed rate of descent can't keep up with our new higher ground speed to make the restr. We missed the altitude by 450 ft and 1 mi. I did not notice until the owner said he thought he missed the altitude. We were 1 mi past the fix 450 ft high. I should have briefed the owner on the use of the efb before flying with it. I am familiar with its use and operation but he was not. He wasn't using it for his check ride but was still interested in its use.
