Narrative:

On the teb 5 SID off of runway 24; the FMS was programmed to follow the departure route and altitudes. The autoplt was engaged. At 1500 ft; I noticed it did not capture that altitude so I disconnected the autoplt and returned to 1500 ft. We topped out at 1700 ft to 1750 ft. There was no conflict and we were immediately cleared to 6000 ft. I am unable to determine why the system did not capture but I will be watching very closely from now on.
