Narrative:

Aircraft departed runway 24 teb on teb 5 departure. Aircraft climbed runway heading until 1500 ft MSL then turned right to 280 degrees. Pilot then selected 2000 ft on aircraft altitude selector. Upon reaching 2000 ft ATC advised pilot should follow teb 5 procedures. Pilot thinks aircraft reached 2000 ft MSL before reaching 4.5 DME as described in teb 5 departure. Frequency change was given and flight was completed as filed. Pilot was operating single pilot with heavy workload. Altitude selection change was made after turning due to force of habit.
