Narrative:

Were cruising at ATC directed 270 KTS. Asked to accelerate to 300 KTS. Subsequently received clearance to descend from 13000 ft down to 8000 ft. Shortly thereafter was given instructions to turn left off the STAR and then advised that we would be landing on runway 9R versus runway 4R which we had previously loaded into the FMC. Went heads-down to load the new approach and then checked the points against the approach page. During this time I descended through 10000 ft without first slowing to 250 KTS. Just after leveling at 8000 ft ATC asked us what speed we were maintaining. I immediately slowed to 250 KTS using full flight speedbrakes. Remainder of flight normal.

Narrative: WERE CRUISING AT ATC DIRECTED 270 KTS. ASKED TO ACCELERATE TO 300 KTS. SUBSEQUENTLY RECEIVED CLRNC TO DSND FROM 13000 FT DOWN TO 8000 FT. SHORTLY THEREAFTER WAS GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS TO TURN L OFF THE STAR AND THEN ADVISED THAT WE WOULD BE LNDG ON RWY 9R VERSUS RWY 4R WHICH WE HAD PREVIOUSLY LOADED INTO THE FMC. WENT HEADS-DOWN TO LOAD THE NEW APCH AND THEN CHKED THE POINTS AGAINST THE APCH PAGE. DURING THIS TIME I DSNDED THROUGH 10000 FT WITHOUT FIRST SLOWING TO 250 KTS. JUST AFTER LEVELING AT 8000 FT ATC ASKED US WHAT SPD WE WERE MAINTAINING. I IMMEDIATELY SLOWED TO 250 KTS USING FULL FLT SPEEDBRAKES. REMAINDER OF FLT NORMAL.
