Narrative:
The flight initiated a descent into the terminal area. Flaps 1 degree was selected; then a 'slats fail' caution message displayed. The QRH procedure was accomplished and an uneventful approach and landing were made. The flight taxied into the gate with no further incident. Once the malfunction was idented; an emergency was declared.

Title: A CRJ700 CREW EXPERIENCED A 'SLATS FAIL' DURING INITIAL DSCNT. AN EMER WAS DECLARED FOLLOWED BY AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG.
Narrative: THE FLT INITIATED A DSCNT INTO THE TERMINAL AREA. FLAPS 1 DEG WAS SELECTED; THEN A 'SLATS FAIL' CAUTION MESSAGE DISPLAYED. THE QRH PROC WAS ACCOMPLISHED AND AN UNEVENTFUL APCH AND LNDG WERE MADE. THE FLT TAXIED INTO THE GATE WITH NO FURTHER INCIDENT. ONCE THE MALFUNCTION WAS IDENTED; AN EMER WAS DECLARED.
