Narrative:
The aircraft departed ZZZ. At rotation the right side baggage door opened and remained so for several seconds before detaching. It landed on the northern airport premises. The aircraft entered a left hand traffic pattern and landed. There was no door unlocked warning light prior to departure. I believe the latches should be stronger and more securely constructed.
