Narrative:

Departed teb on the teb 5 departure SID; runway 24. We were climbing per the SID runway heading to 1500 ft to then turn to heading 280 degrees and maintain 1500 ft till 4.5 DME. We engaged the autopilot at approximately 1000 ft and noticed at approximately 1400 ft that it was not going to capture the preselected 1500 ft. So the other pilot who was flying disengaged the autopilot to manually descend back to 1500 ft from our now 1650 ft. We quickly got back to the 1500 ft and we never heard anything from the controller regarding our altitude. No further issues with autopilot engaged capturing preselected altitudes were observed this trip; and we squawked the incident to our maintenance department.
