Narrative:
Descending via the seavu STAR into la; approach switched us from runway 25R to 24R. The first officer switched arrival transition in the FMS. The route dropped out; the autopilot kicked off during a turn and descent. It took a minute to get back on track. I don't know if we violated any FARS. La should not give last minute arrival and runway changes during the middle of complicated arrivals.
