Narrative:

On descent to ZZZ; descending from 10000 ft to 8000 ft; ATC assigned speed to 180 KTS. I asked the first officer to set flaps 8 degrees and then 20 degrees. At the first detent; flaps fail caution message appeared. Flaps had failed at 0 degrees. I had the first officer perform the QRH. I declared an emergency with approach. After; dispatch and the flight attendant were notified. We landed at ZZZ on runway 31 in visual conditions. Touchdown was less than 400 FPM and came to stop short of taxiway south. No further emergency assistance was necessary and we continued to the gate.
