Narrative:

I performed engineering order xx on aircraft on mar/tue/07. In performing engineering order xx I installed jumper wire 1567033200092-1 from TB5026-3 to ps92p2 pin 3 instead of to ps92p1 pin 3 due to figure 1 of this engineering order which I found misleading; which states and shows ps92p1 at bottom right of the ballast dimmer PS92. In actuality the ps92p1 connector is located at the top left of the ballast dimmer PS92. There was no label on the bottom right connector stating it was the ps92p1 connector and I failed to investigate and look at the top left connector to see if it was labeled due to the confusing figure 1 drawing. Another mechanic was present at this time and he also verified to me in his past engineering orders performed for the lavatory light dimmer deactivation that the bottom right connector was correct and the operational checks were performed good. Upon completing the engineering order with the knowledge I had; I performed the operational check in accordance with the engineering order xx and found the operational check good and the dimmer light did not function as stated in the engineering order. On mar/fri/07 I was advised that the correct wire to disconnect was the upper left connector and not the bottom right connector as shown in the drawing. I found the information in engineering order xx to have misleading information and was also educated about the engineering order by another mechanic who performed the same engineering order; and also disconnected the incorrect wire.

Title: CRJ-700 ACFT HAD MIS-PINNED LAVATORY LIGHT DIMMER CONNECTORS. THE ENGINEERING ORDER DIAGRAM TO DEACTIVATE DIMMER WAS MISLEADING.

Narrative: I PERFORMED ENGINEERING ORDER XX ON ACFT ON MAR/TUE/07. IN PERFORMING ENGINEERING ORDER XX I INSTALLED JUMPER WIRE 1567033200092-1 FROM TB5026-3 TO PS92P2 PIN 3 INSTEAD OF TO PS92P1 PIN 3 DUE TO FIGURE 1 OF THIS ENGINEERING ORDER WHICH I FOUND MISLEADING; WHICH STATES AND SHOWS PS92P1 AT BOTTOM R OF THE BALLAST DIMMER PS92. IN ACTUALITY THE PS92P1 CONNECTOR IS LOCATED AT THE TOP L OF THE BALLAST DIMMER PS92. THERE WAS NO LABEL ON THE BOTTOM R CONNECTOR STATING IT WAS THE PS92P1 CONNECTOR AND I FAILED TO INVESTIGATE AND LOOK AT THE TOP L CONNECTOR TO SEE IF IT WAS LABELED DUE TO THE CONFUSING FIGURE 1 DRAWING. ANOTHER MECH WAS PRESENT AT THIS TIME AND HE ALSO VERIFIED TO ME IN HIS PAST ENGINEERING ORDERS PERFORMED FOR THE LAVATORY LIGHT DIMMER DEACTIVATION THAT THE BOTTOM R CONNECTOR WAS CORRECT AND THE OPERATIONAL CHKS WERE PERFORMED GOOD. UPON COMPLETING THE ENGINEERING ORDER WITH THE KNOWLEDGE I HAD; I PERFORMED THE OPERATIONAL CHK IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ENGINEERING ORDER XX AND FOUND THE OPERATIONAL CHK GOOD AND THE DIMMER LIGHT DID NOT FUNCTION AS STATED IN THE ENGINEERING ORDER. ON MAR/FRI/07 I WAS ADVISED THAT THE CORRECT WIRE TO DISCONNECT WAS THE UPPER L CONNECTOR AND NOT THE BOTTOM R CONNECTOR AS SHOWN IN THE DRAWING. I FOUND THE INFO IN ENGINEERING ORDER XX TO HAVE MISLEADING INFO AND WAS ALSO EDUCATED ABOUT THE ENGINEERING ORDER BY ANOTHER MECH WHO PERFORMED THE SAME ENGINEERING ORDER; AND ALSO DISCONNECTED THE INCORRECT WIRE.
