Narrative:
The sector handing me aircraft was 2 position combined; and was too busy to separate the 2 crossing aircraft at FL300. The handoff on the second aircraft involved was late. I believe additional staffing would have prevented this occurrence. I took corrective action on first contact with both aircraft -- 30 degree turns; climb and descent. Ended up with 4.794 and 800 ft separation.
