Narrative:
Upon arriving in dfw ramp personnel informed me that the refueling door was open and the protective metal cap was missing. The refuel light on the overhead panel only comes on with the refuel panel powered or defuel valve open. It does not indicate door position. Although it was a quick turn; I feel certain that the refuel light was out prior to starting the right engine. I also recall making the call; 'clear on the right?' with the first officer saying 'clear on the right;' before starting the right engine. I'm certain my first officer would have noticed the door open; if in fact it was open; when clearing the right engine. And I don't recall ever seeing the refueling light on after the fueler left the aircraft. In addition; the guide person out in front of the airplane did not indicate anything unusual before marshalling us out. My concern now is that the metal cap fell off the aircraft en route.
