Narrative:
Cruising at FL350; captain's forward window began arcing and then immediately cracked. Received clearance to return to ZZZ where we landed overweight. Landing was performed by first officer and was uneventful. Landing weight was 203;000 pounds (5000 pounds overweight).callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the window cracked within seconds of the initial arcing and the flight crew obtained clearance to descend to 10000 ft. Although an emergency was not declared; it became apparent on initial contacts with ARTCC and approach control that they believed the flight was an emergency aircraft.
