Narrative:
Foolishly accepted and executed ATC assigned speed of 180 KTS to bugse on localizer runway 10 at ord. This resulted in me descending to minimums sooner than normal. Got low altitude alert from controller. Was at minimums or above throughout I thought. Landed without further incident. Ceiling was reported within 150 ft of minimums. I wanted to get down in plenty of time to get a good look -- I ended up alarming the controller. Will now be on high alert against flying so fast for ATC that I let it adversely affect executing the approach in any way. First officer was excellent pilot monitoring throughout and we had a very good debrief.
