Narrative:

On about a 5-6 mi final to sjc my first officer and I observed a laser beam directed at our aircraft. The cockpit was illuminated once. Sjc tower was notified; and I also subsequently notified the following flight of the laser beam. His reply over the radio was 'again?' we attempted to identify the area from which the beam emanated; and approximated it to be coming from a position that was about a 3 mi final south of runway 30L to sjc; at about 1 mi to the east. Subsequent conversation with the captain of the following flight revealed this has been a problem for the last 3-6 months. It might be worth a NOTAM or message to other crews.
