Narrative:

Departed teb; runway 19; dalton departure. Contacted ny departure control; I was issued a climb to 6000 ft. First officer read back; climb to 6000 ft and I initiated a climb. At approximately 2600 ft controller says 'stop climb.' I questioned the controller about what altitude he wanted. Controller says we should be at 1300 ft. Another aircraft comes on the frequency and say he thinks we took his clearance. The other aircraft had a similar sounding call sign. We must listen carefully and confirm if there is any doubt.
