Narrative:
I worked on aircraft X on oct/xa/07. I was assigned to work on the #1 engine. The aircraft was outside the hangar ZZZ. I changed the 'a' exciter 'inboard on the engine.' I was not aware that the service bulletin said; if you install a new mod exciter that you have to cap the indication line; because on a new mod exciter there is only 1 port to hook 1 line to and that line is the 'a' line. Instead of capping the line like the service bulletin says to I bagged and zip-tagged the line. The #1 engine was having ignition problems; so when they went in to change the exciter box they found the line did not have the proper cap on it. They went aog for a new harness; finding that the harness was the problem for the ignition not working properly. I did not read the service bulletin. Always look for engineering notes service bulletins.
