Narrative:

We were in cruise at FL350 when first smelled odor that smelled like camping stove fuel. Odor went away. Later odor returned briefly and then went away. At 12000 ft on downwind for an ILS xxl; purser notified us that the smell had returned and it was strong. We declared an emergency and went on oxygen. We got priority handling from ZZZ approach and request trucks follow us to the gate. At the gate the airplane was inspected and the mechanic informed us that camping stove fuel was found in the forward pit.
