Narrative:

I started the takeoff by advancing the power to 1.10 EPR (after approximately 10 min warm-up). After the engines stabilized at 1.10 I slowly advanced the throttles towards takeoff thrust. Almost immediately after starting forward movement several compressor stalls occurred and I returned the throttles to idle and rejected the takeoff. The instruments made it clear that a failure of the right engine had taken place. We notified tower; completed the QRH; then taxied clear of the runway. All checklists were completed. An aircraft holding short behind us reported smoke coming from our right engine as the takeoff roll began but the smoke did not continue and no fire indications were present. We notified maintenance and taxied back to the gate. Subsequent inspection revealed the need for a complete engine change. The plane was up and flying the next day with a new right engine. Supplemental information from acn 776779: on the start of the takeoff roll on runway got a compressor stall on right engine. We aborted the takeoff at low speed; went to the QRH; shut down the engine and taxied back to the gate.

Title: B767 FLT CREW REPORTS COMPRESSOR STALLS COMMENCING TKOF ROLL AND REJECTS AT LOW SPEED. RETURN TO GATE FOR ENGINE CHANGE.

Narrative: I STARTED THE TKOF BY ADVANCING THE PWR TO 1.10 EPR (AFTER APPROX 10 MIN WARM-UP). AFTER THE ENGS STABILIZED AT 1.10 I SLOWLY ADVANCED THE THROTTLES TOWARDS TKOF THRUST. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER STARTING FORWARD MOVEMENT SEVERAL COMPRESSOR STALLS OCCURRED AND I RETURNED THE THROTTLES TO IDLE AND REJECTED THE TKOF. THE INSTS MADE IT CLR THAT A FAILURE OF THE R ENG HAD TAKEN PLACE. WE NOTIFIED TWR; COMPLETED THE QRH; THEN TAXIED CLR OF THE RWY. ALL CHKLISTS WERE COMPLETED. AN ACFT HOLDING SHORT BEHIND US RPTED SMOKE COMING FROM OUR R ENG AS THE TKOF ROLL BEGAN BUT THE SMOKE DID NOT CONTINUE AND NO FIRE INDICATIONS WERE PRESENT. WE NOTIFIED MAINT AND TAXIED BACK TO THE GATE. SUBSEQUENT INSPECTION REVEALED THE NEED FOR A COMPLETE ENG CHANGE. THE PLANE WAS UP AND FLYING THE NEXT DAY WITH A NEW R ENG. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 776779: ON THE START OF THE TKOF ROLL ON RWY GOT A COMPRESSOR STALL ON R ENG. WE ABORTED THE TKOF AT LOW SPD; WENT TO THE QRH; SHUT DOWN THE ENG AND TAXIED BACK TO THE GATE.
