Narrative:
I came on board to work a cabin chime problem and the gate mechanic asked me to finish installing a mid cabin temperature selector per a line maintenance callout. I installed the selector as per the callout. After replacing; the inoperative light stayed on in both the automatic and manual modes. The auxiliary temperature controller showed a mid auxiliary selector fault when the bite check was accomplished. We ran out of time and decided to defer the problem. Both the mid cabin and auxiliary mid cabin trim air valves failed to move from closed position. I received a call from the line maintenance controller asking for the removed part number. It was xyz and he said that number corresponded to part number abc. The original part number called out for was cde. The number in the callout was incorrect and I installed it in the aircraft. A new callout was generated to replace the unit again.
