Narrative:
During en route phase of flight dispatch informed by crew that filed flight plan showed SHNON1 STAR into iad but current one is SHNON2. Looked in arrival database for iad and all arrs showing this STAR show SHNON2. Do not know how computer was able to select the incorrect version of the STAR since it does not appear in the database. This was the original filed flight plan/release #1 as planned by shift before I took over so no forward flight planning was used (ie; the route was not specifically built by the dispatcher; computer selected it from the get-go). So somehow it selected it from an old database or something. We as dispatchers are expecting the automation to select arrs from the database. This needs to be addressed.
