Narrative:
After takeoff from ewr on the ewr 7 departure; we failed to turn to a heading of 290 degrees at 4 DME. We took corrective action at 9 DME. We didn't cause any conflicts and continued on our flight plan. Extenuating circumstances were that it was a 12 hour day; very late at night. We were heading north instead of east or south; as was normal for the previous day's departures; and we might have missed the turn because we had gotten busy cleaning the aircraft up and were in a mind set of eventually heading north.
