Narrative:

On riivr arrival to lax. Controller gave us descend via riivr arrival to runway 24R. This clearance was given almost over rustt intersection with aircraft in a turn. Runway 25L transition was programmed in route 1. In anticipation of the possibility of runway 24R being assigned; I had preprogrammed the runway 24R transition on route 2. I activated and executed the 24R transition as fast as my fingers could. Apparently it was not fast enough for the controller who said we were off the arrival and to turn right to a 270 degree heading to intercept the runway 24R localizer. He was irritated and said we should be set up for that. I responded that I did it as fast as I could and that he gave us the clearance late. Nothing was said further and nothing was said about a loss of separation or other problem. Rest of flight was uneventful. They have got to give these clrncs sooner.

Title: B757 CREW BRIEFED AND PROGRAMMED THE LAS RIIVR ONE RWY 25L. RWY 24R WAS PROGRAMMED IN RTE 2 BUT CREW COULD NOT CHANGE FAST ENOUGH FOR CTLR WHEN THE CHANGE WAS ISSUED.

Narrative: ON RIIVR ARR TO LAX. CTLR GAVE US DSND VIA RIIVR ARR TO RWY 24R. THIS CLRNC WAS GIVEN ALMOST OVER RUSTT INTXN WITH ACFT IN A TURN. RWY 25L TRANSITION WAS PROGRAMMED IN RTE 1. IN ANTICIPATION OF THE POSSIBILITY OF RWY 24R BEING ASSIGNED; I HAD PREPROGRAMMED THE RWY 24R TRANSITION ON RTE 2. I ACTIVATED AND EXECUTED THE 24R TRANSITION AS FAST AS MY FINGERS COULD. APPARENTLY IT WAS NOT FAST ENOUGH FOR THE CTLR WHO SAID WE WERE OFF THE ARR AND TO TURN R TO A 270 DEG HEADING TO INTERCEPT THE RWY 24R LOC. HE WAS IRRITATED AND SAID WE SHOULD BE SET UP FOR THAT. I RESPONDED THAT I DID IT AS FAST AS I COULD AND THAT HE GAVE US THE CLRNC LATE. NOTHING WAS SAID FURTHER AND NOTHING WAS SAID ABOUT A LOSS OF SEPARATION OR OTHER PROBLEM. REST OF FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL. THEY HAVE GOT TO GIVE THESE CLRNCS SOONER.
