Narrative:

In compliance with far 67 and aim (8-1-1) I called in sick for sequence XXXX. Since I have been previously idented as being 'on the radar' for violating an undisclosed sick usage policy by the chief pilot; I feel compelled to submit this report for 2 reasons. The first: I received my current upper respiratory infection while flying with a fellow crew member who was sick and reported for duty anyway. The second and most disturbing reason is I actually had to think twice about calling in sick given my previous conversation with the above mentioned chief pilot. But then I realized that I would be willfully violating an far; exposing a fellow crew member to my infection; and potentially compromise the safety of the passenger. With hundreds of hours of sick time and a vague idea of when I can exercise that right without a phone or a package at my door; and the fleeting thought of violating an far; I am at a loss for words to express my frustration. This policy is unsafe.

Title: A AIR CARRIER PILOT REPORTED PRESSURE FROM THE ACR INHIBITING HIS SICK LEAVE USAGE.

Narrative: IN COMPLIANCE WITH FAR 67 AND AIM (8-1-1) I CALLED IN SICK FOR SEQUENCE XXXX. SINCE I HAVE BEEN PREVIOUSLY IDENTED AS BEING 'ON THE RADAR' FOR VIOLATING AN UNDISCLOSED SICK USAGE POLICY BY THE CHIEF PLT; I FEEL COMPELLED TO SUBMIT THIS REPORT FOR 2 REASONS. THE FIRST: I RECEIVED MY CURRENT UPPER RESPIRATORY INFECTION WHILE FLYING WITH A FELLOW CREW MEMBER WHO WAS SICK AND RPTED FOR DUTY ANYWAY. THE SECOND AND MOST DISTURBING REASON IS I ACTUALLY HAD TO THINK TWICE ABOUT CALLING IN SICK GIVEN MY PREVIOUS CONVERSATION WITH THE ABOVE MENTIONED CHIEF PLT. BUT THEN I REALIZED THAT I WOULD BE WILLFULLY VIOLATING AN FAR; EXPOSING A FELLOW CREW MEMBER TO MY INFECTION; AND POTENTIALLY COMPROMISE THE SAFETY OF THE PAX. WITH HUNDREDS OF HRS OF SICK TIME AND A VAGUE IDEA OF WHEN I CAN EXERCISE THAT RIGHT WITHOUT A PHONE OR A PACKAGE AT MY DOOR; AND THE FLEETING THOUGHT OF VIOLATING AN FAR; I AM AT A LOSS FOR WORDS TO EXPRESS MY FRUSTRATION. THIS POLICY IS UNSAFE.
