Narrative:
Received clearance to fly the 'loop 4' departure on our pre departure clearance instead of the 'holtz' departure as indicated by the flight plan. After departure; we were cleared direct pevee; which is on the holtz departure; not the loop departure. We queried departure control and they confirmed us to fly direct to pevee. Upon investigation by the flight crew; we discovered that our ACARS was programmed with the incorrect flight number. We had therefore; received the incorrect 'loop 4 as filed' pre departure clearance for our flight and did not notice the incorrect flight number on this pre departure clearance. By virtue of receiving the direct pevee clearance so early on the departure leg; no flight deviation occurred. However; had we not received any instructions after contact with departure control; we would have flown the incorrect 'loop 4' departure instead of the correct 'holtz' departure.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B757 FLT CREW PROGRAMMED THE WRONG SID INTO THE FMC DURING PREFLIGHT. THE ERROR STEMMED FROM AN IMPROPER FLT NUMBER IN ACARS.
Narrative: RECEIVED CLRNC TO FLY THE 'LOOP 4' DEP ON OUR PDC INSTEAD OF THE 'HOLTZ' DEP AS INDICATED BY THE FLT PLAN. AFTER DEP; WE WERE CLRED DIRECT PEVEE; WHICH IS ON THE HOLTZ DEP; NOT THE LOOP DEP. WE QUERIED DEP CTL AND THEY CONFIRMED US TO FLY DIRECT TO PEVEE. UPON INVESTIGATION BY THE FLT CREW; WE DISCOVERED THAT OUR ACARS WAS PROGRAMMED WITH THE INCORRECT FLT NUMBER. WE HAD THEREFORE; RECEIVED THE INCORRECT 'LOOP 4 AS FILED' PDC FOR OUR FLT AND DID NOT NOTICE THE INCORRECT FLT NUMBER ON THIS PDC. BY VIRTUE OF RECEIVING THE DIRECT PEVEE CLRNC SO EARLY ON THE DEP LEG; NO FLT DEV OCCURRED. HOWEVER; HAD WE NOT RECEIVED ANY INSTRUCTIONS AFTER CONTACT WITH DEP CTL; WE WOULD HAVE FLOWN THE INCORRECT 'LOOP 4' DEP INSTEAD OF THE CORRECT 'HOLTZ' DEP.
