Narrative:

We were cruising at FL400 about 50 NM south of ZZZ. The autoplt and autothrottles were engaged and I was the PF. We heard an audible bang and the aircraft yawed slightly before correcting with the thrust asymmetry compensation engaged. The master caution sounded and the EICAS indicated the right engine fail. I verified the thrust increasing on the left engine and selected the engine out prompt on the FMC. It showed a maximum single engine altitude of FL283 and the captain advised center of the emergency and that we would need a lower altitude. The captain began running the engine fail electronic checklist and I began the drift-down procedure. We attempted a relight but it was not successful. I was flying the airplane and talking to ATC while the captain was talking to dispatch and the flight attendants. I told ATC that we wanted to land at ZZZ and we began receiving vectors. I entered the divert airport in the FMC and loaded the arrival. We received vectors for a visual approach. All checklists were completed and an uneventful single engine landing was accomplished.
