Narrative:
Tower cleared us for takeoff and turn to heading 270 degrees. At around 300 ft; captain asked me to pull for heading (flight director). As I pulled; the captain began a turn. I said that we were restr from turning until 1800 ft. Captain replied that was for right turns only; and continued in the turn. I tried to advocate for the captain to stop the turn by saying I believed the restr was for left turns off runway 32L. Captain said no; it was for right turns 'but I could be wrong' and the captain continued in the turn. By the time I could have shown the captain the departure plate; we were already through 1800 ft and almost established on the new heading. Since I could see no traffic conflict; I thought it was safer to let the captain continue to turn rather than try and take the aircraft at 400 ft AGL. The captain seemed reluctant to accept my input or consider stopping the turn even briefly to verify the correct instructions. I don't recall the captain briefing the turn restr on the departure before pushback and I missed the omission myself.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A320 CAPTAIN STARTS LEFT TURN TO ASSIGNED HEADING AT 300 FEET AGL WHILE FIRST OFFICER BELIEVES RUNWAY HEADING SHOULD BE MAINTAINED TO 1800 FEET PER DEPARTURE PROCEDURE.
Narrative: TWR CLRED US FOR TKOF AND TURN TO HDG 270 DEGS. AT AROUND 300 FT; CAPT ASKED ME TO PULL FOR HDG (FLT DIRECTOR). AS I PULLED; THE CAPT BEGAN A TURN. I SAID THAT WE WERE RESTR FROM TURNING UNTIL 1800 FT. CAPT REPLIED THAT WAS FOR R TURNS ONLY; AND CONTINUED IN THE TURN. I TRIED TO ADVOCATE FOR THE CAPT TO STOP THE TURN BY SAYING I BELIEVED THE RESTR WAS FOR L TURNS OFF RWY 32L. CAPT SAID NO; IT WAS FOR R TURNS 'BUT I COULD BE WRONG' AND THE CAPT CONTINUED IN THE TURN. BY THE TIME I COULD HAVE SHOWN THE CAPT THE DEP PLATE; WE WERE ALREADY THROUGH 1800 FT AND ALMOST ESTABLISHED ON THE NEW HDG. SINCE I COULD SEE NO TFC CONFLICT; I THOUGHT IT WAS SAFER TO LET THE CAPT CONTINUE TO TURN RATHER THAN TRY AND TAKE THE ACFT AT 400 FT AGL. THE CAPT SEEMED RELUCTANT TO ACCEPT MY INPUT OR CONSIDER STOPPING THE TURN EVEN BRIEFLY TO VERIFY THE CORRECT INSTRUCTIONS. I DON'T RECALL THE CAPT BRIEFING THE TURN RESTR ON THE DEP BEFORE PUSHBACK AND I MISSED THE OMISSION MYSELF.
