Narrative:
About 70 mi from ZZZ the lead flight attendant called the cockpit and informed us that a passenger was very sick and vomiting. A doctor was on board and seeing to the passenger. I advised ATC and they called ahead for emt's to meet us at the gate. I also notified company operations. ATC cleared us to the OM for a visual approach to runway 9L. While stabilized on GS at 137 KTS; approximately 300 ft AGL; the airspeed footer suddenly rose to about 160 KTS. The stick shaker activated and the speed bug advanced. There was no evidence of windshear or a real stall. First officer pushed the go around button and executed a text book go around. On the following visual approach we were so carefully monitoring the instruments that I forgot to contact tower for a landing clearance. After landing; I realized my mistake and advised the tower that I was clear of the runway. The tower cleared us to the gate and said there was no problem regarding landing without a clearance. We were the only plane in the pattern.

AFTER LNDG; I REALIZED MY MISTAKE AND ADVISED THE TWR THAT I WAS CLEAR OF THE RWY. THE TWR CLRED US TO THE GATE AND SAID THERE WAS NO PROB REGARDING LNDG WITHOUT A CLRNC. WE WERE THE ONLY PLANE IN THE PATTERN.
