Narrative:

I was assigned to aircraft X to change the ignitor B on the r-hand engine. I accidentally changed the ignitor B on the l-hand side and didn't catch the mistake when signing the work off. The aircraft never left the hangar ramp and later that day another shift attempted to start the l-hand engine resulting in 2 hot starts. When looking into the problem; they found the error in my paperwork and also that the fadec on both engines needed to be updated. They informed me of my mistake and I proceeded to write up and change the correct r-hand ignitor. Co-workers then updated the fadec's on both engines and test ran the engines finding no problems. We then signed off the paperwork. I was told to change the l-hand side B ignitor; but the ignitor written up in the maintenance log was for the r-hand side B ignitor; and missed the mistake when doing the paperwork. I need to be more aware of what I am doing and to always resort to the aircraft logbook and maintenance log for assurance on what needs to be done and where.

Title: MECHANIC IS INFORMED HE CHANGED THE 'B' IGNITOR ON THE LEFT ENGINE OF A CRJ-900 AIRCRAFT INSTEAD OF THE RIGHT ENGINE; EVEN THOUGH THE PAPERWORK HE SIGNED WAS FOR THE RIGHT POWERPLANT.

Narrative: I WAS ASSIGNED TO ACFT X TO CHANGE THE IGNITOR B ON THE R-HAND ENG. I ACCIDENTALLY CHANGED THE IGNITOR B ON THE L-HAND SIDE AND DIDN'T CATCH THE MISTAKE WHEN SIGNING THE WORK OFF. THE ACFT NEVER LEFT THE HANGAR RAMP AND LATER THAT DAY ANOTHER SHIFT ATTEMPTED TO START THE L-HAND ENG RESULTING IN 2 HOT STARTS. WHEN LOOKING INTO THE PROB; THEY FOUND THE ERROR IN MY PAPERWORK AND ALSO THAT THE FADEC ON BOTH ENGS NEEDED TO BE UPDATED. THEY INFORMED ME OF MY MISTAKE AND I PROCEEDED TO WRITE UP AND CHANGE THE CORRECT R-HAND IGNITOR. CO-WORKERS THEN UPDATED THE FADEC'S ON BOTH ENGS AND TEST RAN THE ENGS FINDING NO PROBS. WE THEN SIGNED OFF THE PAPERWORK. I WAS TOLD TO CHANGE THE L-HAND SIDE B IGNITOR; BUT THE IGNITOR WRITTEN UP IN THE MAINT LOG WAS FOR THE R-HAND SIDE B IGNITOR; AND MISSED THE MISTAKE WHEN DOING THE PAPERWORK. I NEED TO BE MORE AWARE OF WHAT I AM DOING AND TO ALWAYS RESORT TO THE ACFT LOGBOOK AND MAINT LOG FOR ASSURANCE ON WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE AND WHERE.
