Narrative:
On takeoff with 1 person on board and a light fuel load; the aircraft was light. The temperature was low (about 35 degrees F) so the plane climbed quickly. The tower controller had a helicopter over the airport at about 1;500 ft MSL (500 ft afe) and did not mention that fact to me. There was no communication with the helicopter while I was on the tower frequency until after the conflict was over; so I had no knowledge that the helicopter was there. I climbed right through the helicopter's altitude and didn't see him until he was just to the left of my flight path. It would have been nice if the tower controller had not cleared me for takeoff until I was 'clear of takeoff.' at least the controller might have told me about the helicopter right over top of me. Instead; the controller told me not to climb so fast in the future.

Title: Very Light Jet (VLJ) departure from PDK described conflict at 1;500 FT with unreported helicopter on the Tower frequency; reporter alleging Local Controller was remiss in not issuing traffic.
