Narrative:
Cruising at FL410; began hearing and feeling a noise/vibration from the left side of aircraft. There were no abnormal indications at first. The noise became louder and then the emergency battery light began to flicker. I reduced the left power lever to idle and the noise/vibration went away. I decided to divert to ZZZ. Began a descent to ZZZ and the noise/vibration began again with the power lever still at idle. As noise got louder; I shut down the left engine. We landed in ZZZ with no further incident.
Original NASA ASRS Text
