Narrative:

This report is not being filed for any deviation of flight procedures but rather for preventing a possible taxi incident. After a flight to sfo; (dec/2008 at XA10 local). We flew an actual CAT III approach down to minimums to runway 28R. After exiting the runway; we were told to taxi to parking; via taxiway B. The visibility was extremely poor and we approached lighted barriers indicating that the taxiway was closed. Ground could not see us from their position in the tower. We stopped the aircraft and then were also told to stop by ground. After the barriers were removed by ground personnel we asked for and received a follow me vehicle to parking. Ground indicated they had never seen the visibility as bad as it was at sfo. Now; we were never informed of the taxiway closure via ATIS or NOTAM. It would be helpful to have known that fact. Ground did indicate that the taxiway was closed via NOTAM but it occurred after our departure.
