Narrative:
Departing teb via the RUUDY1.ruudy. Climb heading 240 to 1500 ft; then right turn direct to wentz. The initial course was normal as generated by the dual FMS's. At 1200 ft MSL on climb autoplt was engaged. Upon reaching 1500 ft MSL; the right turn to wentz was not commanded by FMS generated command bars; so a manual heading change was made by the PIC (PF). As the right turn was initiated; departure control directed a turn to 300 degrees; maintain 1500 ft. There was no apparent traffic conflict. A later check of both FMS's confirmed the ruudy departure was correctly loaded; the databases were properly current. Crew was unable to discern why the right turn to wentz was not initiated upon reaching 1500 ft MSL. The next time we fly this departure we will anticipate the turn reaching 1500 ft and quickly select direct to wentz manually; instead of waiting for the FMS. If this same error has occurred to several crews; the RNAV programming for RUUDY1 should be checked.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN HS 125-800 DEPARTED ON THE TEB RUUDY 1 RNAV SID. THE FMS WAS PROPERLY LOADED AND THE AUTOPILOT ENGAGED BUT THE AIRCRAFT DID NOT TURN TO WENTZ AT 1500 FT. ATC VECTORS WERE ASSIGNED.
Narrative: DEPARTING TEB VIA THE RUUDY1.RUUDY. CLB HDG 240 TO 1500 FT; THEN RIGHT TURN DIRECT TO WENTZ. THE INITIAL COURSE WAS NORMAL AS GENERATED BY THE DUAL FMS'S. AT 1200 FT MSL ON CLB AUTOPLT WAS ENGAGED. UPON REACHING 1500 FT MSL; THE RIGHT TURN TO WENTZ WAS NOT COMMANDED BY FMS GENERATED COMMAND BARS; SO A MANUAL HDG CHANGE WAS MADE BY THE PIC (PF). AS THE RIGHT TURN WAS INITIATED; DEP CTL DIRECTED A TURN TO 300 DEGS; MAINTAIN 1500 FT. THERE WAS NO APPARENT TFC CONFLICT. A LATER CHECK OF BOTH FMS'S CONFIRMED THE RUUDY DEP WAS CORRECTLY LOADED; THE DATABASES WERE PROPERLY CURRENT. CREW WAS UNABLE TO DISCERN WHY THE RIGHT TURN TO WENTZ WAS NOT INITIATED UPON REACHING 1500 FT MSL. THE NEXT TIME WE FLY THIS DEP WE WILL ANTICIPATE THE TURN REACHING 1500 FT AND QUICKLY SELECT DIRECT TO WENTZ MANUALLY; INSTEAD OF WAITING FOR THE FMS. IF THIS SAME ERROR HAS OCCURRED TO SEVERAL CREWS; THE RNAV PROGRAMMING FOR RUUDY1 SHOULD BE CHECKED.
