Narrative:

I was instructed to hold short at runway 7 at golf intersection. I held short as requested but second guessed if I was at the right spot on the airport. The runway signage was a blue piece of plywood with the letter 'G' and a red 7. The signage did not look like a runway sign that should normally read 7-25 red and white markings. In any case I crossed 7-25 thinking I was not at the right spot and needed to be one more intersection over. I was in error and should have called the tower for instructions but did not do so. I am totally at fault with this incident. I sat at the hold for quite a long time with no response from the tower so I thought I might have missed a call as there were no other aircraft in front of me or behind me so why was I holding for so long. I should have called the tower for instructions. When in doubt call the tower no matter how you might look in the tower controllers eyes. This is my first error of this sort ever. I know better I just was unfamiliar with the airport and the markings in my opinion were confusing and inappropriate. It won't happen again though I do take full responsibility for my error. I did not compromise the safety of any other aircraft or persons in my plane or another plane. I will not compromise safety of anyone and in this case did not as well. I proceeded with great caution though I should have called the tower and I would have incurred this error.
