Narrative:
After go-around in den from runway 35L due to lack of separation; on short final in IMC in heavy rain. Clearance from ATC was to fly localizer outbound and to climb to 9;000 ft MSL. Upon reaching 9;000 ft MSL approximately 3-4 miles north of the field the egpws audio alert saying 'terrain! Terrain! Pull up!' we executed the escape maneuver and climbed until alert quit; leveling at 10;000 ft. We advised ATC; who then told us to maintain 10;000 ft.
