Narrative:
On initial climbout; we observed the illumination of the 'engine 2 fail' light. This light indicates the opening of the #2 engine inlet door. After following the checklist (power lever idle); we explained to tower that we needed to return; which we did. After landing; I opened the aft equipment bay; and observed that the #2 engine inlet door was ajar. The hinges had come off their normal position. I re-secured the door; and shortly thereafter; we departed again without incident.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: DA50 Captain reports ENG 2 FAIL light shortly after takeoff and returns to departure airport. It is discovered that the warning is erroneous and that the inlet door had come off its hinges.
