Narrative:

Departing with primary auto press controller placard inoperative. Normal climbout day VMC. Approaching 10;000 ft cabin altitude warning and aural; ears popping cabin got warm fast. Told first officer to stop climb and declare emergency. Executed QRH did not use O2 mask because we began a descent immediately to 8000 ft. Asked ATC for delay holding in area to check QRH for overweight landing procedure and performance. Briefed flight attendants and made PA. Called operations. Set bugs for 28 flaps 132;000 pounds. Landing flaps 28 approach 131 KTS normal touchdown. Arff followed to gate. Some passengers complained of sinus pain were treated at gate lounge by emt personnel.
