Narrative:

On takeoff; the upper passenger door opened in flight around 1;000 AGL. Prior to the event; there was no door warning light illuminated. I believe that in order to prevent these type of events from happening in the future; in the cessna 402 that there needs to be a redesign of the entire passenger door and door warning system. It should be impossible to have a door not properly secured and to not have a door warning indication.
