Narrative:
We were departing jfk. We were cleared into position and hold runway 31L taxiway kk. After a minute or two waiting in position we were cleared for takeoff. We acknowledged the call; took off and commenced the departure procedure. When jfk tower switched us to departure control they informed us we accepted aircraft Y takeoff clearance by mistake. They had been in position on runway 22 (unknown to us). We do not know if the tower controller issued the clearance to aircraft Y using our call sign or if we acknowledged aircraft Y's takeoff clearance. In any event; we did not remember hearing any runway specified for the aircraft cleared for takeoff. I highly recommend the tower controller specify the runway when clearing aircraft for takeoff if the controller is running more than one runway. This becomes even more crucial when like sounding same company call signs are on the runways at the same time.
