Narrative:
On ILS approach to runway 30 at lgb descending through approximately 1300 ft the tower advised us of cessna traffic. We advised tower we were IMC. Desending through 800 ft we received a TA alert for traffic at our 11-11:30 position and maybe a quarter mile. We visually spotted the cessna as we desended through 750 ft. In our 12 o'clock postion. The TCAS indicated the cessna was only 300ft above us. When we inquired the tower about this aircraft we were told that was the traffic that had been pointed out to us while IMC. Evidently the cessna was on a VFR downwind to runway 25 at lgb. This was entirely too close at any time; especially however; given the weather conditions at the time.
