Narrative:
The trim air system on our assigned aircraft was inoperative and deferred. We were operating with all temperature controllers in the off position and both packs in stby normal. As we climbed through approximately 15;000 the cockpit temperature got very cold. The left pack was switched to stby warm to bring the cockpit temperature up to a reasonable level. The volume of air increased and thereafter the flight attendants called to report a loud bang and bulging ceiling and sidewall panels near the over wing area. Due to the uncertainty of the situation; an emergency was declared and we made an uneventful return landing overweight on runway 10 with a smooth touchdown.
