Narrative:
During the boarding process an elderly couple; mentioned to the 'a' flight attendant; that they had two full medical oxygen bottles in their checked baggage. We contacted operations and they removed the passengers and retrieved their luggage with the full medical oxygen bottles. The a flight attendant discovered it in a conversation while greeting them during boarding. It appears the oxygen bottles were missed during tsa screening of checked baggage. The couple may have been incorrectly advised by company reservations personnel that they could check the oxygen.1) discuss with tsa that two full medical oxygen bottles made it through screening. 2) ensure reservations agents are thoroughly trained regarding transportation of medical oxygen 3) revise flight manual regarding transportation of passenger medical oxygen. Both the first officer and I searched and could find no clear language regarding the prohibition of transporting passenger supplied oxygen.
